The HUMAN FOOT is strong, complex and a dynamic marvel of evolution, comprising of 26 BONES,33 JOINTS AND OVER 100 MUSCLES, LIGAMENTS AND TENDONS.

They are the platform supporting your body during locomotion over all types of terrain. If the feet suffer with alignment, balance, structural skeletal issues ,or arthritic disease this will influence the way you walk.

The joint alignment in your ankles, knees, hips, back, neck and shoulders are casualties due to such factors and may cause  variable amounts of stress and inflammation in those affected joints and long term arthritis may develop.

Are you a candidate for an assessment for prescription orthotics?

Here are some general signs you may notice indicating that you may benefit from appropriately prescribed orthotics:

  • Flat feet (pes planus)
  • High arches(pes cavus)
  • Feet turn in / turn out
  • Feet roll in /  roll out
  • Heel rolls in / rolls out
  • Knees Knock (genu valgum), knees bow (genu varum)

PAIN IN :

  • Heels sole /arches / back of heel
  • Forefoot / ball of foot /toes
  • Knees / Hips / Back/ Neck / Shoulders
  • Legs /Thighs / Buttocks

Many patients have biomechanical problems which mean that the function, structure and position and dynamic relationships of joints of the foot are at fault when the patient is walking.

This can lead to painful, acute and chronic inflammatory conditions of the foot including Plantar Fasciitis, Achilles Tendonitis, Bunions, Morton’s Neuroma. Alignment of the foot and inflammatory issues of the feet, ankles, legs, knees, hips and back, neck and shoulders may result. Other issues can result from direct injuries.

PROCEDURE:
The Wilson Foot Health Clinic’s protocol is to take a thorough detailed history, a physical examination, a gait assessment (we may use video  gait analysis depending o complexity of case) take a plaster of Paris negative impression of the foot. This is converted into a positive model at our laboratory and used to form the core of the orthotic. The laboratory’s licensed Pedorthotist will follow my prescription, corrective design and material specifications.

Orthotics correct/improve foot structure and function. Fatigue and pain can be reduced since the orthotics give corrective support  where needed. The muscles do not need to work overtime to correct misalignments or improper
biomechanics of the feet and ankles.  It is crucial, however, that your case is professionally assessed by a Foot Specialist, a Regulated Health Professional such as a Chiropodist to ensure appropriate prescription and orthotic design.

When you need to invest in prescription orthotics, your best bet is to have them made by a trained expert with experience.  Book your appointment for an assessment today to see if an foot orthotic prescription is right for you !
